Dr. Brian McGuire

| BRIAN L. McGUIRE is an Associate
Professor of Accounting and has earned the degrees of B.S., University of
South Alabama; MBA, University of South Alabama; Ph.D., University of
Central Florida (major field of concentration in accounting, with additional
emphasis in information systems). He is a Certified Public Accountant, a
Certified Management Accountant, and a Certified Business Manager, and he
has professional experience in both public and corporate accounting. He has
served as an Administrator of a medical center, Director of Corporate
Operations of a hospital holding company, and as a consultant in the health
care field.
Dr. McGuire’s teaching interests are in the areas of managerial accounting, cost accounting, and accounting information systems. His research interests are in the areas of cost accounting, health care, and accounting information systems. McGuire has been active for the last fifteen years on the national level of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), the largest organization (with 67,000 members) of Management Accountants and Financial Managers in the United States (and sponsor of the Certified Management Accountant and the Certified Financial Manager examinations). In addition, he has served as President of the Lincoln Trail and Gulf South Regional Councils. Prior to that, he served as President of the Mobile Chapter, which he led to win the Remington Rand Trophy. He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Evansville Chapter, an Evansville Delegate to Lincoln Trail Regional Council, Chair of the Committee on Academic Relations, a member of the Executive Committee, and a member of the Board of Directors. McGuire has also been active in numerous other professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (where he has served as a member of the AICPA’s Educational Competency Assessment Focus Group), the Decision Sciences Institute (where he has served as session chair and reviewer for various national conferences), and the American Accounting Association (where he has also served as session chair and reviewer for various national conferences). |
