Why would I want a Computer Information Systems degree?
If you like working with computers and solving problems and are creative, you may be successful in a career in computer information systems (CIS).  Graduates with a degree in CIS enjoy opportunities in one of the fastest growing fields in the United States.

What career opportunities would I be prepared for?
The CIS program at USI is designed to prepare you to develop and support information systems using computers in a business or organizational environment.  (The Association for Information Technology Professionals (AITP) model curriculum is used as the primary curriculum guide for this program.)

What is the objective of a CIS degree?
The primary objective of the computer information systems major is to provide you with knowledge, abilities, and attitudes to function effectively as applications programmer/analysts and with the educational background and desire to pursue lifelong professional development.

What will I study?
You will study the following:

  • Data Communication
  • Internet Application
  • Software Development
  • Information Systems Design

Will I have internship and co-op opportunities?
Opportunities to participate in USI's Business and Professional Practice Program will be available to you.  This is a partnership between USI and employers.   Junior and senior CIS majors are employed in part-time (internship) or full-time (co-op) positions.

CIS majors in this program have worked for manufacturing companies, accounting firms, large and small businesses, non-profits, and government agencies.   The internships and co-ops allow you to learn professional skills in the professional environment while earning college credits.
